Tearful Reunions and Happy Paybacks

Chapter Six Tearful Reunions and Happy Paybacks

Earl was getting antsy when he realized Quinn would not be riding him. Ashleigh came knowing it was a friendly ride on different horses and non-competitive. At first the duo rode in silence over the green parkway.
"Ash, how are you feeling now. Any better?" Quinn asked rather quietly
"Yeah. I remember when I heard about many of my parents old horses being put down or dieing it's just that he was so young, he never lived to his fullest extent." Ash said looking back at him. "Why you ask?"
"Because, you looked as though you had never had to put one down before. The way you cried, I don't know. I have seen many horses put down in my life, many my dad tried to save for us. It should never have happened. If only that one jock had been more careful I think we would have been fine." Quinn replied, sadly.
"What does your father do? I think Legacy would have beaten us if he hadn't of fallen. How's Girly doing, she should be foaling in a couple of weeks right?"
"True" Quinn thought about it. It had been almost two months since the horrible accident that Legacy finally returned home. "Well, Jon and my breeding manager Andy got Legacy's stud book open and I would like you to have first dibs on a breeding. You have helped me so much through the year. I have to repay you somehow."
"I couldn't do that. I already have to much of Wonder's blood in my barn. Her first son Pride, second son Mr. Wonderful, are already studs and her only daughter, Princess is a broodmare already. Legacy was the only Wonder foal I had left and I gave him to Christina. She traded him for her eventing mare that she wanted badly. Maybe in a year or so I will re-bred Wonder, she is just getting to old now. How about, can I race Casual in her first race as a four year old. She made it right? You didn't retire her."

"Okay. Then that settles it. You can ride her. I always wanted you to, but you were always busy riding someone."
"Yeah that someone was Fleetman. We have no other decent race stock that I would want to ride and take away from Naomi." Ashleigh said.  Inside she was thrilled to be able to ride Casual.  Now it was just a matter of time before she was a four year old and in races again.
